The catchment area in question was constructed for The Gateway Shopping precinct, which had been newly completed in Alkimos.
As the ground area at the site was predominantly comprised of limestone, the team decided to implement Stormtech SC-740 chambers. These were perfect for the job, as they optimise storage volumes with a relatively small footprint and prevent excessive excavation, backfill – all of which would otherwise drive up the cost of the project. Access to each chamber was created via a concrete tank at the end of each run.
Blue metal was laid underneath the chambers, and also 200mm above. This reinforces the structure, as well as assisting with soakage.
The entire arrangement was wrapped in geocloth, in order to prevent sand infiltrating into the system.
